club náutico deportivo

Spanish to English Other Tourism & Travel
This term appears in a restaurant description. The restaurant is in the 'club náutico deportivo'. I know that 'club náutico' is a yacht club and I have often translated 'puerto deportivo' as marina, but I am not sure what the correct/accurate translation for 'club náutico deportivo' would be. Any help is much appreciated.

agree with Noni and Phil Indeed, if that is what the club is called, I'd use that title, adding initial capitals to indicate that that is the actual name. And conversely, if you do translate it (for whatever reason), then you'd need to avoid using initial caps, which would imply that you are using the actual title of the club rather than a translation

Agree with Noni Have you looked up their website to see what they offer? Depending on what kind of image they want to convey, it could be a posh yacht club (and yacht clubs also offer other kinds of boats), or it could be a fun family-type boating activity centre.

If you were able to say ... ...where exactly the restaurant is, then someone might be able to tell you directly what the real answer is, based on knowing the place. My inclination is to go with Carol's answer, but, as she says, lack of info makes it a difficult call. Plus the fact that people sling these kinds of term around rather loosely.

But you may not be in a position to tell us!

But without any context (what are the other facilities?) it's hard to be certain if this is correct, hence CR of only 3. However, it is a possibility.

Many thanks Robert! It really depends if this is the actual name of the club, in which case I'd probably leave it untranslated

I am sorry but I didn't have much context in this case, but from what I found on a few web pages, this is a yacht club that also offers quite a range of water-sports, so, in this particular case, I've gone with this option, as, also, yacht club was mentioned elsewhere in the text. Yacht Club

I think it would depend on what the restuarant is going for - In english they are nearly always in my experience called a specific type of name - Yacht Club, Golf Club, Skiiing Club... but could also be simply a Marine Sports Club... it is not common but sounds fine.

Boating Club

Where I live (Upper Midwest, USA) this type of organization is often called a boating club to include recreational sailing and fishing as well as yachting.
