That went amazingly fast, but it caused trouble with my Mulitterm 7. I did get it to work more or less, however. Multiterm has the mysterious Java glitch again, but I think that has more to do with a recent Java update than with Studio 2009.
I pass on Passolo... but I dare say it is fine for people who do that kind of work.

Now I am planning to go on a one-day workshop with a live, reliable, independent instructor (who has guided me through earlier versions). So I will have to get Studio 2009 up and running wiht a licence - that will be exciting! Then I can start boasting in the right places that I have it, before I forget how to use it again.
Three months' support follow with the course... It's in Danish, but if that is no problem, there are still places! Details in the Danish forum.
I hope I am going to join the more or less satisfied users of Studio 2009... ▲ Collapse

The fact that it was so terribly time consuming to build a memory from the reference documents I had received.
It slowed me down so much that I did not have enough time to work the text over and over to get a good final version.
All in all, I work more quickly and far better without any of those "tools".

Long ago, before SDL bought Trados, they offered their product at a steep discount to owners of other CAT tools. Although I installed the software, I never had time to learn it. Owning the program, however, entitled me to a discount when purchasing Trados after SDL took over the company.
Although I bought the upgrade to 2009 Studio (or whatever it's called), I haven't installed it yet, as none of my clients have asked for it. I'm still using the 2007 version.

In 1997 I learned the meaning of "garbage in, garbage out" on the first project using a CAT tool. It was a highly-repetitive text, perfect for a tool of that type. A couple of mistranslated obscure terms were repeated dozens of times throughout the text. It was easy enough to fix, but it did teach me a lesson about the limitations of CAT tools.

I bought Trados as part of the recent group buy, and I haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. I keep intending to try it out when I've got some free time, but I've been drowning in work lately.
The irony is that, as a devoted Wordfast user, my main motivation for getting Trados is that it might open up some project possibilities for things like tagged files. And yet, because I'm drowning in work already, I'm not sure I really need to open up my project horizons at all at this ... I bought WF, which I'm currently using. It only gathers dust when I'm doing a lot of work from pdf's or actual physical books.
One of my clients gave me Across, for which I had to buy a PC computer, which I use when that client requires it. Otherwise, I run everything possible through WF.
I don't particularly like Across, and WF is both easier and faster to run.
Across could gather virtual dust for all I care.

Trados dates from 1984 when a group of German engineers got together to make a CAT-tool. The infamous and now obsolete rate reduction scheme dates from around 2000. In 1995, I worked with Windows95 and Office95, the revolution of the moment.

Upgraded from SDL Trados 2007 and now using Studio 2007!!
Have tried Studio 2009 but haven't been able to convert my TMs to the new format (was told that I'd have to remove Trados 2007 from my PC before downloanding Studio 2007 & 2009 then I found out that the only way to convert existing TMs is to have all three versions installed at the same time.
I have more than 50 TMs and the conversion process is way too longwinded so have now given up!

I saw Trados demonstrated in 1992. At the time, I was still using WordPerfect in DOS.

I bought Trados and it caused my computer to crash. My tech could never get it to work without crashing the computer, so I finally gave up.
Since then I have bought 2 new computers and keep meaning to give it a try, but I never have time because my plate is full with non-Trados work. I already have high output speeds, and I use my brain to keep terminology consistent.
