Hi, I will probably buy the trados software in the coming weeks. Could you tell me if you charge the same way for such a job (per line/per word) or if you lower your rates because it is computer assisted? By the way, how do you count the words or the lines in the software? Do you think it is really worth buying it? Thanks a lot for your answers. | | | Heinrich Pesch Finsko Local time: 11:32 Člen (2003) finština -> němčina + ...
If your client just sends you files and does not care how do you translate them, you charge like befor. But if the client sends you a TM or wants the uncleaned files, you probably have to analyse the files. I usually analyse the target files after translation and charge for the part that is not matches and without repetitions. The Workbench analyse function does that for you. Hello I was wondering how good is Trados. I was thinking to buy it but not before to know more about this programme. I saw on the forum that many translators are using this programm. In Romania it costs 600 EUR. Is it expensive? Or can I download a demo version? I had tried from their site, but it didn't work. Does anyone know more about it? Thanks. | | | words and percent | Jan 31, 2005 |

I used to translate texts for some IT company. They had special system of payment per word of source text, depending on correspondence of the new text to the already existing translation. There was set some price for 100% new text. Then depending on % of correspondence they accordingly lowered the price the text with some correspondence. E.g. if correspondence was 70% the price also was 70% of the initial price. In contract they had indicated that in this file there are x words with 100% correspondence, y words with 90% correspondence, z words with 70% correspondence, xx words with 50% correspondence. I hope this makes some sense for you) | |

Hi, It is quite usual to offer discounts for fuzzy matches, e.g. like: No matches - 74% matches: 100% of your word price 75-84% matches: 80% of your word price 85-94% matches: 60% of your word price 95-99% matches: 30% of your word price 100% matches/repetitions: 25% of your word price Since you save a lot of time with matches, these discounts are usually no problem at all. I don't have Trados, but I do have Wordfast. I don't offer discounts (lower rates) unless the clients asks for a discount. If you work in a sub-industry where there is something to be gained from directly offering discounts, then it may be a good idea to let clients know that you have Trados and are willing to consider offering a discount (which they must negotiate with you, obviously). | | | V. Thanks a lot for your precise answers. It's helping me a great deal. I'm still hesitating to buy it though... It costs a lot... but I guess it's worth it. By the way, did you have problems with the VAT when you bought the software? I mean, I'm located in France and I was wondering if I can get the VAT back on that purchase without too much problems... Dear colleagues, I have already started working with Trados. Personally I do not think it is the best and most user-friendly Cat tool on the market, but many agencies require it. See more Dear colleagues, I have already started working with Trados. Personally I do not think it is the best and most user-friendly Cat tool on the market, but many agencies require it. It is essential not to miss some jobs. I still have troubles in establishing a correct discounted Trados table. When we calculate the price for our translations, it is important to bear the following in mind: the TM delivery permits the client to develop new projects based on the same word glossary and when the agency will entrust with a new project another translator, this translator will have to perform an adjustment activity of the similar segments already contained in the Translation Memory. As a consequence the translation work decreases and the agencies save a lot of money. I hope that colleagues realize this every time they calculate the Trados rates. ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Trados rates CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
