I would think that the writer was either lazy, pushed for time or did/does not have full command of the language being used. None of those thoughts would stop me from dealing with the purpose of the email.

In general, the PMs I have been working with have a good command of the language used to contact me, but surely typos can happen, and an odd typo here and there wouldn’t matter at all. Anyway, if it meant that I actually had difficult to understand it, I would contact the client to clarify. I probably wouldn’t be so sympathetic towards a new client, but it depends and I would definitely turn it down if it looked suspicious in other ways.

The odd typo is acceptable.
If there are so many typos that my job is made more difficult (or even impossible), then the offer will be rejected, as it requires a competent copywriter, not a translator.

If it's from a company I've determined to be reputable, it wouldn't matter quite so much to me. Although it is kind of a red flag when there are multiple typos, in my opinion. This is because in the language industry you'd expect people to know how to compose an email, whether it's their native language or not.

The owner and at that time chief salesman of a small start-up agency used to send e-mails with typos, and because I knew him well, I ignored them. I suspected he might in fact be dyslexic. The agency grew, and I have been very happy to work with them ever since. Now, their mails are friendly, but businesslike and correct, whoever sends them - so the typos were not a problem.

I know at least one other person who is really dyslexic, but is good at so many other things, just not e-mails. I can bear with typos if that is the only thing wrong with a mail. I am not actually dyslexic myself, but I know all about typos - my fingers simply hit the wrong keys...
As others have mentioned, PMs may not be writing in their native language, and I am grateful when, for instance, their English is better than my German, or if they speak a language I do not understand at all, and they make the effort to write English.
Then there are those odd mails that would be suspicious even if the spelling was impeccable. Typos are just another nail in the coffin, if the whole content of the mail is looks like a scam. ▲ Collapse

Hmmm... the question itself has a typo ... isn't it ironic?
My answer was "Other": I don't bother answering emails with lots of typos, typos are a bad way to start a professional relationship.

...but all the grammar and word usage errors that make me feel uncomfortable, and sometimes suspicious. Possibility of one or more misunderstandings (deliberately generated?) regarding payment, etc. I usually decide, and right away, to turn down their requests. I haven't encountered these kinds of issues with very many of the authors I have worked for.

Many of my clients write to me in English, which is not their first language. I don't expect perfect spelling from them. I'm more interested in whether they pay fairly and on time, in which case I will happily work for them.

My usual reaction would be to shake my head, sigh, and bin the e-mail. Unless there was a convincing reason not to do so.
