Bio
I have lived throughout the United States, in Colombia (Spanish-speaking), and in Austria (German-speaking). Apart from my native languages, I have formally studied Latin, French, and American Sign Language. I can read and speak with natives in Italian, and my dream is to learn the Georgian language.
My alma mater is Franciscan University in Ohio, where I studied biology, Catholic theology, and the liberal arts. So far, my scientific research has included bioinformatics and drug design. I have worked in an cGMP mRNA in vitro transcription and chemical synthesis labs, where I helped write SOPs and ensure that the orginization was up to par for major CRISPR projects. In my bioinformatics research, I built phylogenetic trees and analyzed motifs for proteins similar to AChE, which is a target for drugs, biochemical weapons and animal venoms. At Abbvie in North Chicago, I worked with a team to synthesize and test the next generation of drugs to combat drug-resistant or neglected diseases. My research discovered a promising new series of small molecules for tuberculosis. I love academia, but I am also enchanted with the lives of monks and humble workers.
Here you have a short run-through of my life. I will happily share more details as a writing sample if so desired. Volumes could be written about my faults. I have chosen to spare the reader, but you may have a summary of those as well.
My native languages are English and Spanish
I mainly translate works from Spanish into English, and I specialize in the sciences (medicine, pharmaceutics, biology, chemistry, psychology, etc.). I can offer faithful or idiomatic translations based on author preference. Faithful translations are more literal, without straying out of the intended context. They are meant to preserve the connotations of the original language, which could otherwise be lost in translation. Idiomatic translations will be more fluid to the reader, but may lose part of the imagery or tone of the source text. By default, I will use American English, but the author may opt for British English. The two have many differences in spelling, punctuation, word choice, and grammar. As an Anglophile, I am experienced with both. I am experienced in translations of Birth certificate, marriage, and other legal documents for USCIS Visa, Residency, and Citizenship applications.
