TRANSLATION
No one reading a French
text should know that it’s a translation. This is why I translate exclusively
to my mother tongue, French. This ensures that my clients receive an idiomatic
translation that reflects the cultural context of their target audience. Nevertheless, I never
hesitate to be creative without
compromising on the meaning and intention of the source text, so that its
French version is both clear and dynamic.
Finally, as each document and each subject require a different approach, I
undertake in-depth research prior to any translation.
This approach gives my job its value: my clients' projects offer me the
opportunity to explore their world, immerse myself in it, and broaden my
knowledge.
My job therefore feeds two passions: writing and self-development.
ADAPTATION,
SUBTITLING Adapting an
audiovisual work means restoring its nuances without betraying its creator’s
message.
Adapting audiovisual work is similar to literary translation.
It’s a creative process wherein the audiovisual translator is also an author.
The subtitle must be discreet, clear, and concise,
and must adapt to the technical constraints of subtitling,
the rhythm of the dialogue, and the language level of the film.
To ensure optimal quality, I use a three-phased approach:
Phase 1: Tracking, which aims to define the entry and exit points of the
subtitle,
Phase 2: Translation, which consists of "re-creating" the work in
French,
Phase 3: Viewing, which allows me to identify any typos and/ or refine the
translation.
Audiovisual adaptation ensures that the film reaches an international audience.
True to the creator’s message, it allows the creative work to be fully
appreciated.
