English to French Other Botany
Bonjour,

pour recréer une prairie dans un jardin, en posant du gazon en plaque :

"The wild flower turf we are using here is called a ***wild flower combie*** and within it are 35 different species of wild flowers and a lot of different meadow grasses."

Merci d'avance.

En général, le diminutif de "combination" est plutôt "combo" mais cela doit faire parti du nom (marketing).

information

I have never heard of "combie" as a diminutive of combination and cannot find an example of it being used that way. My first reaction was that it was the name of the place where the seeds had come from. I also found that combie originated from a Gaelic term meaning confluence. If you can tell us where the seeds come from, it would help.

The Scottish Nation
Combie
COMBIE, a surname derived from lands of that name in Perthshire, now a parish and village. The word has its origin in a Gaelic term meaning confluence.

b. The point of juncture of such streams.

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=confluence

The river between Lake Combie and Camp Far West is splendid in winter and spring when the mighty Bear flows unimpeded, with some of the least known and beautiful falls and gorges. Summer flows below Combie Dam are minimal… In riparian zones, the Bear River flows by oak-spotted hillsides and impenetrable thickets of Buckeyes, Spicebush, Willows, and other shrubs and is fed by tributaries of small waterfalls, meandering streams and lush canyon gardens. In the hot, dry, lower elevations madrones, manzanitas, and other tough, leathery-leaved shrubs share the rocky hills and grassy meadows in March through May with Blue Lupines, Yellow Madias, Golden Poppies and many other wild flowers that form tapestries of color.

Mississippi Palisades State Park, located near the **confluence** of the Apple and Mississippi river in northwestern Illinois, is an excellent wildflower-viewing area during May. In fact, it has been said, "Instead of giving your mother flowers for Mother's Day, take her to see the colorful explosion of wildflowers on the Sentinel Trail. Peak bloom is usually on Mother's Day."
