Japanese term
エアー代の削減
Japanese to English
Tech/Engineering
Manufacturing
This is a puzzle for me. This document refers to needing to reduce the エアー代. What exactly is this エアー代? It seems to be something used in production. Thank you.

reduction of air freight expenses
I think it is about shipment.
If products are usually shipped by sea freight in this factory, only when production is delayed and cannot catch up with sea shipment, the manufacturer must send goods by air freight.
So, to reduce the cost between sea and air freight, production must be on schedule.

: yes, it's a logistics/shipment term, referring to the cost of shipping by air; also: reduction of air freight charges

: Although I agree the original text is not clear, if it were air freight espenses, エアー便 (航空便)should have been the expression.

: I agree with Mizue san. Angel san, Japanese people shorten and abbreviate words in very strange ways especially when the terms involve gairaigo or foreign terms.

Comment: "Thank you, Mizue. This was a tough one for me with all the other plausible answers. I had the agency ask the client directly to be 100% sure. It's air freight costs!"

Reduction of (compressed) air costs
Here, "dai" refers to an expense or the cost of something...Costs related to air-compression (i.e., compressors, electricity, air hoses, other infrastructure, air leaks, etc.) can represent a significant amount in manufacturing plants that use air tools (most plants do).
Example sentence:
Eliminating leaks can lead to a significant reduction in the costs of maintaining a plant-wide air compression system.

Thank you for your input, DaviH. You nearly got my vote, too, after I looked around online. But, in checking with the client, it turns out to be air freight! |

cost of compressed air
If the Japanese term エアー代 is in connection with production, the term 'compressed air' is the most likely candidate for 'エアー' in Japanese. The English term 'cost of compressed air' therefore appears to be appropriate translation.

Thank you for your input, hari. :-) |
