a solitary [or restrained], masculine tear

I don't think a literal translation of "скупой" will work here, so I suggest "solitary" -- in the sense that only one tear was shed, or perhaps "restrained" -- in the sense that, as a man, he endeavored to hold back his tears.
Peer comment(s):

agree Andrey Belousov (X) : restrained. I'd go with this one.

Thank you, Jack
agree Jim Tucker (X) : would use "solitary"; "restrained" is too explicit; more effective just to be suggestive

neutral Judith Hehir : Henry Shroeder is right about omitting the "masculine" piece.

a single tear blazed a trail down the King's cheek

Any literal translation of the above sounds silly, IMO; 'blazed the trail' alludes to the fact that he never cries (see 'trailblazing'). Gets the meaning across in a pretty way (I think).
Peer comment(s):

neutral Andrey Belousov (X) : 'blazed the trail' alludes to the fact that he never cries - good imagination. Doubtful, though. Do it belongs to enivodies - I does neva crere, Man.

Thank you, I think "scanty" is a very good variant for "скупая"

Leave out "мужская" in English

прежде всего, потому что плохо звучит и сразу после этого является определение пола человека.
