Russian term

теплоход

Russian to English Other Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
"Мы решили скататься на теплоходе до Ярославля. Там и кинозал, и чемпионат по караоке."

Не знаю исходного пункта, но плывут по реке. Похоже, не маленькое судно. Как его правильнее обозвать? Спасибо.

cruise ship /cruise boat

Judging by the onboard facilities listed in the phrase, this is one of those cruise ships that ply the waters around Moscow and take passengers on 3-7 day cruises to Uglich, Tver and beyond. These ships typically have 4 decks, bars and restaurants, and are not small things.

probably, a 'motor boat' is even better
Peer comment(s):

agree Rachel Douglas : Steamboat, riverboat. But not motor boat! - that would be a little one, which you drive yourself.

disagree Irene Chernenko : No, it is not a steamboat. Steamboats were replaced by diesel-driven ships in the second half of the 20th century and are now only used as tourist attractions. But not in Russia.

river boat

My dictionary says "motor ship" but that doesn't sound natural. "cruise ship" won't do, because that brings to mind ocean-going vessels holding 2000 people and like small towns. So I've gone for the location where they operate.
Note from asker:
just boat or river boat would be great unless i had to elaborate about the movie theater... thanks for your ideas
Peer comment(s):

neutral gutbuster : it really stands to reason, but if the word does not need to sound very professional, I'd simply say boat. ...by boat to Yaroslavl.Colloquial and very unprofessional :-)

By Russian definition теплоход is a ship driven by an internal combustion engine. (Gas or diesel).
Why not just say "We decided to sail/cruise to Yaroslavl."

On the other hand, I guess you have to mention a vehicle, since that's where there's movies and karaoke
