Spanish term

Siento que nos han tomado de punto",

Spanish to English Other Linguistics
Hello,
What would be a good translation for "Siento que nos han tomado de punto", dijo la víctima".
For context, see http://www.lanueva.com/edicion_impresa/nota/3/06/2011/b63004...

Thanks

I feel that they made a laughing stock out of us.

agarrar or tomar a (alguien) de punto (Perú, Río de la Plata argot): lo han agarrado de punto (burlándose de él) they've made him the butt of their jokes; (aprovechándose de él) they've taken him for a ride (familiar); la profesora me ha agarrado de punto the teacher has it in for me (familiar)

neutral Barbara Cochran, MFA : Reading the context the asker offered, I don't think it's as minor as beng a butt of a joke, which is hardly criminal.

Spanish term (edited): Siento que nos han tomado de punto

It feels like we're the butt of a bad joke

Another option. The term "taking the pi$$" also springs to mind! But I don't think that's very appropriate for a newspaper article.

neutral Barbara Cochran, MFA : Given the context the asker offered, I think this is much more serious than being the butt of a joke./To me a "BAD JOKE, as you put it has more to do with being deceived, as in "the joke was on me."

I state BAD JOKE in my suggestion, if you care to re-read it. Completely different meaning./In the UK, at least, to be the butt of a bad joke within this context, is like saying someone's taking the pi$$ out of you, based on the no. of burglaries, etc.

I'm afraid they targeted us/staked us out

No need to be overly literal.
