English term

stern / bow / aft

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Ships, Sailing, Maritime pilot boat
Buenas!

No estoy yo muy muy puesta en temas marítimos y en el mismo párrafo me salen estas tres palabras que, a priori, significan proa.

"... In the forward area a higher fixed platform can be arranged in order to allow the transfer while the pilot botat is either alongside the ship or with the stern off from the side of the ship with bow pushing. The arrangements of the two structures one fixed and one moving can also be inverted. Aft, the pilot bota can also..."

¿Se traducen todas, tal cual, como proa? Tienen algún matiz??

Gracias a los entendidos!

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Peter Guest, JohnMcDove

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

popa/proa/a popa o hacia popa

5 minutes research would clarify this.
Stern es la popa
the bow or bos es la proa
aft es en el área de la popa o hacia la popa.
There are hundreds of places you could look this very basic terms up.

agree JohnMcDove : Yes. N.B.: You may want to add your comment about "stem" you made in the other question, here. It is more plausible "stem" than "stern" in this context. (In which case I may leave the "PRO" status, even if I voted "Non-Pro".
