How'd you translate "be more open to what they are saying"?

Try to speak in terms of your experience, as this will diminish the likelihood that your partner will feel blamed and will be less likely to become defensive. If they do become defensive or interrupt you, ask them if they can let you finish and that you’ll be able to be much more open to what they are saying after you feel that they've heard you.
