2.2 What is a Ghost Island?
‘Ghost islands’ take the form of a dedicated traffic lane for vehicles turning right from the major road, at junctions under priority control, with non-physical separation provided by road markings to allocate road space. An illustration of a priority T-junction with a ghost island is provided in Figure 3

Cross hatch lines (chevrons) – can you drive on them?
White chevrons (commonly known as cross hatched lines) are often used to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.
There are 2 types:
If the area is bordered by a solid white line, you should not enter it except in an emergency.
If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.
Don’t forget, when turning right you can enter a broken white line chevron if you feel by not doing so you would stop the traffic flow from behind.
The image on the left shows an example when you should drive onto cross hatched lines.
Sometimes it is almost impossible to get positioned properly in the centre of the road if you do keep out of them.

If the lane you intend on joining has cars waiting, drive over the hatched road markings providing the outer line is broken.
...
The key is to keep a keen eye on road markings to initially establish if a hatched road area is surrounded by a continuous solid or broken line. If broken, you must then determine whether it is safer to enter the area due to other vehicles either already in the lane you intend on taking or vehicles behind you.
...
Q - are you allowed to u turn on broken hatch lines? They are broken on both sides
A - It is advised to keep clear of hatched markings with broken lines, but you can legally enter them. So providing making U-turns is not prohibited, then yes you can.
Q - Can I overtake when there is a hatched area with broken lines running along the middle of the road for the majority of the road itself (single lane national speed limit)?
A - Legally you can providing the lines are broken and not a continuous solid line.

A ogólnie to należy podać kontekst. Z pewnością nie tłumaczysz artykułu z wictionary.

If, however, it is bordered by a broken white line then you can enter it to overtake if you have to, but it is generally understood that you shouldn’t use it.

znak P-21
