Norwegian knee surgery
Hei!
I am working on a report about a patient who had had knee surgery. The surgeon ends the report by writing:
"Avslutter skopien og syr igjen portaler .. og setter lokal i ledd."
Does this surgeon simply mean "lokalbedøvelse"? (Although TIVA anaesthetic and local infiltration anaesthetic were both administered prior to surgery.)
Mvh
Alison.

I'm guessing that a peripheral nerve block was used.
From the first reference: Peripheral nerve block techniques have been shown to significantly reduce postoperative pain for shoulder and knee arthroscopy procedures
From the second reference: A peripheral nerve block is a type of regional anaesthetic that involves injecting local anaesthetics and other painkillers near the major nerves to your leg (lower limb).
And from this reference (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5579215/): All patients were blocked under ultrasound guidance after surgery in the recovery room. After positioning of the lower extremity in slight external rotation and 30° knee flexion, the thigh was prepped with 2% chlorhexidine in 70% isopropyl alcohol. In the FNB group, the femoral nerve was blocked at the level of the inguinal ligament.

Note from asker:
Thanks for confirming, Eodd. Other than TIVA [total intravenous anaesthesia] and local (intravenous) anaesthetic being administered prior to surgery, I see no indication of a peripheral nerve block being administered. |
