Czech term

napružení

Czech to English Medical Medical (general)
From an article about intrauterine devices/systems:

Je nutno zdůraznit mnohdy opomíjený (byť zcela logický) fakt, že u některých žen dochází ... k fyziologické subinvoluci dělohy, a tím ke zmenšení dutiny děložní. To může vyústit v chybné uložení IUS či IUD (např. napružení příčně uloženého svislého dříku, doprovázené bolestivostí......

napružení - 'winding', 'coiling'? From the context, one might expect 'bending', 'twisting' or just 'deformation'.

Discussion

Jiri Lonsky Feb 13, 2020:
From the given context, it seems to me that, as the intrauterine space gets smaller, the uterine walls put pressure on the IUD, possibly distorting it. The pressure against the IUD, which resists the distortion, is then the source of discomfort/pain. IMO "napružení" describes the state of the IUD when it is under pressure of the uterine walls.

What about "expanded", like the spring or coil is expanded?
Dylan Edwards (asker) Feb 12, 2020:
Elsewhere in this article, the word 'napasované' is used:
'IUD "napasované" do malé dutiny děložní (klinicky asymptomatické)'.

Perhaps 'napasované' could be translated as 'wedged'.
Dylan Edwards (asker) Feb 12, 2020:
"Wedged" is possible, but doesn't 'napružení' also imply (I'm thinking of 'pružina') some distortion of the shape?
Sarka Lhotak Feb 12, 2020:
Spíš bych řekla, že jde o vzpříčení: get wedged?????

tension on

tension on the cervix
This is basically what "napružit" means, to put a tension on something.
