projection spatiale

français vers anglais Sciences sociales Géographie Urban planning
Having trouble with the phrase 'avec leur projection spatiale' below... not sure how it fits in with the rest of the sentence??

Thanks for the points, Lorna.
If it's not too late, I'd try to dissuade the customer from using "territorial markers". It's not wrong, but it doesn't convey a clear image in English (though I'm not sure clarity is their prime objective!)

impact on the surrounding space

Here's another way you could put it.
Peer comment(s):

agree Bourth (X) : Plain English. Not what architects, French architects at least, are best at.

Projection into space

I think this could do...

Thank you, but I don't think that's quite what I'm looking for...

spatial expansion

another idea. 'Spatial' is a very common term in the field of Human Geography. It has the advantage over '...space' of not connoting the cosmos.

"...allowing other structures, at other scales, to be composed and constructed, with their spatial expansion, of districts within the conurbation and the region."

(Admittedly this sounds awkward, but doesn't the original sound pretentious and obfuscated?)
Note from asker:
Any idea how the phrase fits in with 'd'autres structures' (before) or 'des quartiers...' (after)? Thanks for your help!
Ahhh, it's all starting to make sense now! I couldn't get how the 'avec' fitted in with anything, but your answer really helped!! Merci beaucoup!!!!

physical outreach

If plain English doesn't sit well with your architects, then "with/through their physical outreach" might go down nicely.

The concept is very similar that in one of your other questions, that about questionne, interpelle, "reach out and grab", only in a softer register as long as it doesn't get TOO "physical".
