French term
A reçu le present acte
French to English
Law/Patents
Law (general)
Preamble of a lease, stating that the notaire "a reçu le present acte". I understand the meaning (the parties went to the notaire to execute the agreement), but I can't find a really graceful translation of "a reçu" The notary signed the agreement? Witnessed the agreement? Both?
I'm translating into US English. Thanks in advance...

recorded this agreement/entered this agreement in his records
In French notarial procedure it seems to mean that he entered it into his records. They often specifically say he keeps a copy of the instrument. He signs it, but other people often witness it. Have to bear in mind that a French notaire is a conveyancer in practice, rather than a notary public.

thanks Allegro. Asker says it's a lease, which makes it a contrat de bail.

Comment: "Thanks very much, Rufinus! That's exactly what I needed (there wasn't really more context, just the address of the notary preceded it). Sorry Writeaway - I didn't see your message until the next morning."
