"A palavra justiça é comumente usada como sinônimo de poder judiciário. Nesta hipótese, a palavra justiça não deve ser traduzida por "justice" (sic). Traduza de preferência por courts, ou então por forum, ou court system." (Dicionário de Direito, Economia e Contabilidade, p. 230). Exemplo: Justiça do Trabalho (Labor Court System, Labor Courts).

For my translation, I chose "Judiciary". It seems to be a better match.

It's not your typical Brazilian "citation", which would have to follow ABNT guidelines. If it were a normative citation, it would show "8 jun. 2010" and "16 jun. 2010", respectively, for the dates: https://blog.mettzer.com/nbr-5892/ Because it's not normative, the translator is free to do as he/she deems appropriate.

If you pay close attention to my translation, you will see that I kept one of the abbreviations in Portuguese. As far as the dates, yes, they must be translated, or else they might be misinterpreted (day for month, and vice versa). In regard to the "j", it makes no sense to keep it "as is", it means nothing to an American lawyer.

It's a legal citation in support of the petitioner's argument. It tells the reader where to find this case or statute, and should not be translated, because this would make it difficult to look up.
