Croatian to English: Text from a book about a photographer General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
Translation - English Artists have always reacted to events of war and they use artistic media in a variety of ways in order to warn about the growing tensions even before a conflict has arisen, or they point to the cruelties and the absurd destructions of the war that was already started. With their sensibility, very often, they have a feeling that conflicts will come, they are engaged in the resistance, they take part in conflicts as photo reporters so that they might document the events or take pictures of the destruction of the areas already devastated by the war in order to immortalize the events of war.
English to Croatian: Extract from Asimov's : The End (published in 1971) General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English I conclude, then, that we have only the space of the next generation to stop the population increase and reorganize our cities to prevent the pathological crowding that now occurs. We have thirty years – till A.D. 2000 – to do it in and that estimate is rather on the optimistic side, if anything.
Unfortunately, I don't think that mankind can fundamentally alter its ways of thinking and acting within forty years, even under the most favorable conditions: and the conditions are far from favorable. As it happens, thos ewho dominate human society are, generally, old men in comfortable circumstances, who are frozen in the thought patterns of a past generation, and who cling suicidally to the way of life to which they are accustomed.
Croatian to English: The little wooden boat – Island of Murter General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: History
Source text - Croatian No, ovo stanje će se stubokom izmijeniti u posljednjim godinama XIX. i u prvim desetljećim XX. stoljeća.
Translation - English But the situation completely changed in the last years of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century. At that time the inhabitants of Murter and Betina had already become land owners on the Kornati islands. The inhabitants of Sali were still the indisputable masters of the sea but the new owners of pasture grounds, vineyards and olive-groves started asking for their place in the aquatorium in spite of limitations and confrontations. Numerous members in the families, extended staying on the islands, cheap and healthy food made the people of Murter and the rest of the inhabitants of Kornati take a stronger turn towards the sea and gradually adapt their boats for the new demands. The regulations for fisherman boats of the Management of Sea Traffic of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, for the port authority of Tisno and for the years 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, although not reliable because they bring the summary of the data for all five settlements with municipal authority, undoubtedly showed that the interest for fishing had suddenly grown.
Croatian to English: Extract from a text on Scientific Realism General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Philosophy
Source text - Croatian Općenito uzevši, kritika je poduzeta sa stanovišta suprotnih Putnamovoj filozofiji i uključuje: matematički a priori genetičkog tipa, koncept znanstvenog realizma koji uključuje vanjski (extra-teoretski) uzrok u potvrđivanju znanstvenih teorija, teoriju korespondencije kao prihvatljive teorije istine, odbacivanje funkcionalizma, ovisnost o istinitosti matematičkih prijedloga o isključivo unutar-matematičkim razlozima, koncepta matematičke mogućnosti kao svojstva matematički demonstriranih istinitih matematičkih modela, koncepta matematičke potrebitosti kao svojstva sveukupnih istraženih matematičkih mogućnosti, koncepcije matematike kao epistemiološki plodonosne znanosti koja otkriva logičko-matematičku strukturalnost „kompjuterskog“ dijela mozga, razumijevanje suvremenih računala kao kontingetne tehnološke identifikacije s dijelom ljudskog uma.
Translation - English Generally, criticism is undertaken with standpoints contrary to Putnam's philosophy and it includes: the mathematical a priori of a genetic type, the concept of scientific realism which includes external (extra-theoretical) cause in the confirmation of scientific theories, correspondence theory as an acceptable theory of truth, the rejection of functionalism, decisiveness about the truthfulness of mathematical propositions from exclusively intra-mathematical reasons, the concept of mathematical possibility as the property of mathematically demonstrated true mathematical models, the concept of mathematical necessity as the property of the whole of researched mathematical possibilities, the conception of mathematics as an epistemically fruitful science which reveals the logical/mathematical structurality of the 'computing' part of the mind, the understanding of contemporary computers as contingent technological identification with a part of the human mind.
French to Croatian: Dalmatie - Zadar General field: Marketing Detailed field: Tourism & Travel
Stošija i Sv.

I was born into a bilingual family (Croatian/Hungarian). Growing up as a bilingual child, I was always
interested in languages and that is why I learned other languages easily, so I
chose my profession according to what I liked most. I graduated English and
French at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar (BA of English and French - equivalent
of today's masters degree). After having taught English and French for fifteen
years in schools, in 1992 I obtained the position of language instructor of
English at the Department of English at the University of Zadar, Croatia, where
I was giving courses of language exercises, grammar, syntax, translation,
interpreting, speaking and writing skills, which I continued as senior language
instructor until 2015. During my position at the university I also worked as part-time translator
for institutions, firms or private clients, the job which I still continue to do today as a freelancer.
The majority of my translations
are from English to Croatian and from Croatian to English, then French to
Croatian and Croatian to French. Being also a part-time musician and a tour
guide, my work on translations has often been dealing with topics from music
and tourism. I translated texts from everyday conversational language level to
very advanced ones, which can be seen under my „fields of expertise“. I spent
weeks or months in the UK and France for my education and specialisation.
I can read the cyrillic alphabet, so there is no problem in working with texts
from Serbia or former Yugoslavia written in that script. I have 30 years of experience
in written translations and interpreting in English/ French/ Croatian language
pairs.
I do subtitling of video material and voice over, too. I have passed the subtitling test for Pixelogic and Zoodigital.
