Introduction

Translator by trade, financially literate by upbringing. Born and raised in a family of bank workers, I learned English and took interest in finance from an early age. I have been working as a freelance localization and LQA specialist since 2012.

Experience

Finance — I have extensive experience in various kinds of finance-related content, such as general-purpose texts, market analysis reports, learning resources, texts for websites, blogs, desktop and mobile apps, social network materials, as well as texts for finance-related promotions and bonuses.

Team leadership — I supervised and helped train a team of four linguists, covering both Brazilian and European Portuguese, providing insights, proofreading/editing localized text, filling out quality control reports, developing style guidelines and glossaries, assessing adequate (and inadequate) use of AI-powered resources, etc.

Marketing — I am accustomed to working in tandem with marketing, design, UX, and copywriting teams, collaborating with professionals in these fields to provide localization services that are not only linguistically sound, but also technically feasible. I can localize text in spite of rigorous limitations, such as character count thresholds, limited spaces for written text in visual materials, and platform policies.

Systems and interface — I have localized many system emails, letters, press releases, website texts and elements, landing pages, user-filled forms, app menus, reports, presentations, etc.

Engineering — as a sanitation engineer by training, I have general experience and aptitude in STEM, as well as specialized experience in sanitation, water resources, and environmental sciences.

Research — I have proofread and translated several academic texts, at both article and thesis levels.

Gaming — I have taken part in gaming-related localization projects, professionally and casually, and I do embrace games with strong writing elements as a hobby.

Highlights

- During my tenure as a team lead, my work was assessed several times by external LQA vendors, meeting approval thresholds every time. Said work elevated Brazilian Portuguese to the client's top tier in terms of results and audience.
- I provided localization for names and key terminology of marketing campaigns and promotions which was well-received by the audience.
- I successfully worked in cooperation with market analysts in localizing and proofreading expert-written materials in finance. My formal training in STEM has allowed me to quickly comprehend and properly translate technical analysis materials that elaborate in concepts from statistics, geometry, and mathematics.
- I translated a complete set of guidelines for web- and app-based support teams, with formal and informal elements, creatively localizing training-oriented slogans and acronyms and fully preserving their intended mnemonic effectiveness.
- My translations of papers in sanitation, environment, and water resource research were seamlessly accepted for publication.

AI vs. No AI

Thanks to a combination of background and experience, I can work with or without AI. My STEM education allows me to swiftly understand and learn AI resources, and operate them with effective prompts. However, my extensive experience in detecting and assessing inaccurate/unprofessional use of AI has convinced me that fully human processes are absolutely not outdated.
