Keep them. If you don't like them, don't take part, don't answer them. I occasionally learn something from them or they give me the chance to see how other people manage their work or what they are currently experiencing. It is a good virtual water cooler for translators as we mostly work remotely at home.
I don't get it. Who are they here?

Imagine Proz members no longer being able to complain about a badly formulated or repeated poll question. What will they do? They might buy a gun instead. Keep them!

They're fun and they sometimes lead to discussions. It would be nice if they were a bit more professional, e.g. no spelling mistakes and no illogical options to select from, because when that happens no-one talks about the poll's topic -- everyone just ends up complaining about how useless ProZ.com is (which isn't true, but some people have lost all faith). The fact that some polls relate directly to being a translator and some polls are more frivolous is not an issue for me. Some people who ... Some people who are depressed about life have a problem with such polls, but IMO not all polls need to be super serious. ▲ Collapse

Please, please, keep them. It's perhaps one of the features of Proz that's still very much alive. The forum now only has one or two threads a day, and Kudoz even fewer—in my languages, there wasn't a single question posted in April—and the translation jobs board rarely has anything of interest; almost all the jobs are unrelated to translation and paid at ridiculous rates.

I hope to understand the question. I would say that these quick polls keep me active on proz.com. It is nice to read some questions related to translation, life-work balance, client relationship and latest trends. I do not also mean that we have to talk about AI all the time, but time to time.

I can see why Jared suggests dropping Quick polls.
However, I suggest that all those who voted to keep them should support them actively by sending in a good question within the next month.

However, there's a challenge: how to encourage the participation of junior translators. I personally would like to see how the new generation of translators think.
I voted to lose them because they’ve clearly become quite redundant over the years. But maybe 365 polls a year is just too many and making them weekly would allow more "thoughtful" questions to become the norm and lead to more discussion spread out over a few days.
I rarely interact with them either way, but I sometimes take a few minutes to check out what others have to say on the topic. Thing is, there are only so many variations of "How does AI affect you" and "Do you use ".

But, perhaps, making them less often, as Bruno Veilleux says, would be a good idea. Maybe weekly or twice a week, leaving enough time to answer (and discuss) for colleagues who have not been online on Proz.com regularly. And they should be better selected, less AI-only focused and relevant to our profession.

Junior translators who visit poll discussions, who expect to see discussions of the topic at hand, and who discover that most posts in the "discussion" are from people who complain about the polls and about ProZ.com, without any action from the moderators whatsoever, quickly realize that the ProZ.com forum is neither a welcoming place nor a relevant place to visit. What would be nice is a feature that allows moderators to hide posts that are "off topic", i.e. posts that do not discuss the issue at hand. I'm not sure if such a feature exists (or if moderators exist).
