Some talented children also performed dance numbers to entertain their fellow birthday celebrators. One of the performers was the 8-year-old Alfred, who danced gracefully for his peers. “I am not a [sponsored] child, but my elder sister invited me to join,” says Alfred.

Alfred is a younger sibling of two sponsored children. World Vision sponsored children were allowed to bring friends to celebrate with them. He himself cannot yet be sponsored since the program tries to maintain a limit of two sponsored children per family at a time, in order to be able to accommodate more children from more families in the program.

Alfred is always an invited guest at this annual “Everybody’s Birthday” celebration as World Vision tries to support the larger number of underprivileged children in Maghirupay. “I am always excited to join this celebration because we do not celebrate our birthdays at home. We also do not receive gifts from our parents, because they cannot afford to buy any,” shares Alfred.

“Thank you to the sponsors and to World Vision for giving us the chance to experience a birthday party. It is only during Everybody’s Birthday that we can eat delicious food, like spaghetti and fried chicken,” adds Alfred.

“Birthday Bounce Back or Everybody’s Birthday is just one ways of giving children fullness of life as we [World Vision] envision. It is just so inspiring to see the children’s smiles as they celebrate their birthday all together,” says Amy, World Vision’s Sponsorship Relations Specialist in Maghirupay.

This year, sponsored and non-sponsored children received personal hygiene kits for their birthday gifts. “Thank you for the candies, towel, and toothbrush. Now, I can already change my toothbrush, which is more than a year old now. Thanks to World Vision for giving us this gift,” says Alfred.

Children also share their birthday wishes and prayers with God. Let us join them in praying that God will hear and grant their wishes. Here are some of their birthday wishes:

“My birthday wish is to get high grades in all my subjects and be in higher section next school year,” says Danica, 14.

“I hope God will help me in my studies. I want to finish my studies,” says 11-year-old Tristan.

Not punchy enough is it! But perhaps we might think in this direction. Part of the problem is that it seems to be given as an alternative name: *Birthday Bounce Back or Everybody’s Birthday*.
