4. Chromosome 4 has more than 700 genes. If you have red hair, it is because of one of the genes on this chromosome.

Sie fotografieren die Bisons und Wapiti-Hirsche, die hier umherstapfen, und hoffen, Grizzlybären, Wölfe oder Luchse zu erspähen. Doch vor allem kommen sie wegen der Geysire, der brodelnden Schlammlöcher, der kochend heißen Quellen.
An mehr als 10 000 Stellen im Park blubbert, dampft und stinkt es oder schießt Wasser bis zu 100 Meter hoch aus dem Grund. So unwirklich und feindselig wirke die Landschaft, dass man an die Hölle und das Jüngste Gericht denken müsse, bekannte ein Pionier des 19. Jahrhunderts.
Er ahnte nicht, wie nah er der Wahrheit damit kam.
Denn in Yellowstone schlummert ein Monster biblischen Ausmaßes. Rund acht Kilometer unter den Füßen der Besucher liegt eine der gewaltigsten Magmakammern der Welt - mit einer Ausdehnung von 2500 Quadratkilometern, dazu acht Kilometer dick und gefüllt mit einem mehr als 800 Grad heißen Gemisch aus Gas, flüssigem und festem Gestein. Kurz: Yellowstone ist nichts anderes als ein Vulkan.
Aber kein gewöhnlicher. Einen Kegel sucht man hier vergebens, auch ein Krater scheint zunächst nicht sichtbar. Lange waren es nur die meterhohen Ascheablagerungen und das heiße Geblubber allenthalben, das Geologen aufmerksam machte. Jahrelang vermaßen und analysierten sie das Gestein, bis Satellitenfotos bestätigten, was vom Boden schwer zu erkennen war: Weite Teile des Parks sowie Gebiete darüber hinaus - insgesamt etwa 4000 Quadratkilometer - bilden den Krater eines Vulkans.
Oder besser gesagt: eines „Supervulkans“.

Experience: I translate and edit articles for the Finnish GEO-magazine on a regular basis. I am also in charge of editing and fact checking of the science news section of every issue.
I have also experience in translating non-fiction books. So far I have traslated 45 books, the majority of which I received and delivered InDesign-ready. The topics range from knitting and wine to travel, but I could say I am specialized in activity books and children's books covering a multitude of themes.
