im sorry i haven't been writing, ive been away for a few days. i am really
thankful you took the time to find this out for me. the translations sound
nice! (so you can grade in the dutch-english forum, i like Boiled new baby

There is a difference between new potatoes and baby new potatoes. I used to live in the U.S. and had a hard time finding the really tiny ones. In the Netherlands they are very popular.

I asked the Dutch-English translator what he meant, and he changed it to
Small Baked potato with herbs
and
Small boiled potatoes
I wish i knew Dutch to be able to tell what really says in there. People are so irresponsible!!! Translation can be the realm of arbitrary (don't know if that means anything in english....) :) Thanks a lot everyone!!!!!! :)

Guys you are all so beautiful! but like I explained in the other posts, this is just some guy who translated a Dutch menu into English and I am so convinced now he didn't have the slightest clue. I took a look at the menus for a couple of international US style restaurants. Foster's Hollywood was no help, but TGI Friday's has potato skins on a menu in English - but, frustration, I can't find a Spanish version, altho they are present in Spain....

Vir/Noni/Will: Just came across this entry. I don´t know whether the tail part relates to the steak or to the “herb”. I don´t know whether to laugh or cry. This is funny (please all forgive my weird sense of humour), we call “ganja” “herb/herbs”. Seriously, though, I believe that what they are referring to as “tailings” are “sprigs” (is that the word?) of say fresh herbs, e.g. thyme.

Agree w Taña that her first ref is not for us! Nor, imo are the topping and tailing ones - this is just part of the vegetable preparation process and not part of a recipe name. How frustrating that the only promising link won't open...

Vir-F: “tailings” doesn´t make ANY sense to me (but I am far from being an expert on the culinary front). I googled “boiled potatoes tailings” (or potato as Will pointed out) and came up with following link (CAT.INIST) which makes reference to tailings as the “residuos tratamiento” in connection with potatoes. Quote: Peeling removed 91-98% of the total residue; washing reduced residues by 33-47%. Detectable residues were found in boiled potatoes and the boiling water, and in french fries and the frying oil.

And the last link provided here deals with “topping and tailing vegetables”.

I’ll pass these links onto you with the hope that someone knowledgeable in this area can help you as I have no idea. I am very hesitant about sending the CAT.INIST link as it probably will throw you “off-course” , but did so with the hope that it offers some “clue” (IMHO, I don´t THINK SO, but I would be remiss if I didn´t!).

Will may also be onto something here with his suggestions that support Noni´s comment. Sorry, I could not help more…. However, as you stated … al original pues:/

No existe, IMO! Al original otra vez, recomiendo! (Aunque en este caso, puedo imagar que se trata de "Topping", es decir, tipo guarnición. Ojo que boiled no es baked. Esto es patatas sin pelar al horno.
